Creatives from around the world joined us for a panel discussion on the use of mixed reality in storytelling. Our speakers shared profound insights on how this emerging technology is being used to create new and immersive experiences for audiences.

Mixed reality (MR) is a technology that blends the real and virtual worlds. It allows users to interact with digital content in a way that feels natural and engaging. MR is being used in a variety of industries, including gaming, education, and healthcare.

In the field of storytelling, MR is being used to create new and immersive experiences for audiences. For example, MR can be used to create interactive stories that allow users to explore different worlds and scenarios. MR can also be used to create educational ex
periences that make learning more engaging and memorable.

About the Speakers:

  • Rebecca Young is a Narrative Designer, Researcher & Lecturer at RMIT University. She is interested in the use of narrative to create engaging and immersive experiences in mixed reality.
  • Issiah B. Burckhardt is a Technical Philosopher who is investigates the potentials of technology and philosophy. He is particularly interested in the ethical implications of emerging technologies such as mixed reality and their pratical implementations as facilitating tools for the betterment of our society.
  • Tuck Siver is the CEO of Blinxel, a company that develops mixed reality experiences for education and training. He is passionate about using MR to create engaging and effective learning experiences.
  • Samuel Tate is a Senior Immersive Experience Designer at PHORIA, a company that develops mixed reality headsets. He is experienced in designing and developing immersive experiences for a variety of industries.
  • Atalanti Dionysus is the Founder and CEO of Atalanti Films, a company that produces mixed reality films. She is passionate about using MR to tell stories in new and innovative ways.

During the expert panel discussion, Issiah B. Burckhardt shared information about state of the art immersive media software applications and hardware with the audience. He providing a link to attendees of a carefully curated list of tools and their applications, most of them free and open source. He encouraged attendees to roll up their sleeves and "get their hands dirty" figuratively speaking, with XR/MR technologies and apps, by promoting experimentation and learning with these emergent tools. Issiah described in an expositional way, how some of these new tools work and can provide impetus for creatives to discover new ways of telling stories. He communicated that taking creative risks on the bleeding edge of technology will provide a gateway to more impactful communication.
